Hearing aids and health insurance

Did you know your private health insurance could help cover the cost of your hearing aids? At bloom hearing specialists, we're here to help you understand your entitlements and access the hearing benefits you deserve.

Does my health insurance cover hearing aids and test?

While most Australian health funds don't offer specific hearing aid insurance, many include extras cover for audiology services and devices. This means you could receive rebates towards the cost of your new hearing aids.

To understand your coverage, we recommend contacting your health fund directly and asking these key questions:

  • Does my policy cover hearing aids or audiology services?

  • What is the rebate amount for hearing aids?

  • Are there any eligibility criteria I need to meet?

  • Are there any restrictions on hearing aid models or providers?

  • What is the claims process? Do I need to pay upfront and claim reimbursement, or will the insurer pay directly?

Waiting periods and access

Most health insurance providers have a waiting period before you can claim benefits for hearing aids, typically around 12 months. The frequency with which you can claim these benefits also varies, often falling between three to five years.
